"Quiet and great location”

The Best Western Atlantis Hotel is situation a short walk from Southern Cross Station, shopping centre, trams to Docklands No. 86 tram, Melbourne Entertainment Centre and Bourke St. Getting to South Melbourne Markets is also very easy by taking the No. 96 tram. Both Woolworths and Coles (open until midnight) are located across the road as is, Seven 11 and Pie Face if you get the late night munchies. The rooms are spacious and the facilities include an indoor heated pool, dry sauna, gym with treadmills, dumb bells up to 20kg and 3 work stations. While the bathroom is on the small side, the great water pressure and hotwater certainly made my showering experience much better. Air conditioning worked well with both heating and cooling functioning responsively. The windows have blinds and a pull down shade which is really effective in making the room dark in the mornings. Around the corner is La Trobe is the William Anglisss catering school where you will find two coffee shops (with great cakes and snacks).

"Really great bargain and great views!”

+ price, location, helpful staff, clean rooms, room size
- The size of the soap!

My partner and I just returned from Melbourne after a weeks stay. The view from our room gave us a birds eye view of the harbor. The Atlantis was very clean, room size was perfect, staff was always helpful and it was right on a street with a tran for easy transportaion to other parts of Melbourne. We did not have breakfast in the hotel, but at $11 AUD it was not a bad price. When we go back to Melbourne, which will be often, we will definitely stay at the Atlantic. We have told all of our friends in Melbourne that when they have out of town guests, they should tell them to stay at the Atlantis. This is a true bargain and if you book ahead, even better.

"A great choice”

We didn't go looking for a hotel with all the frills ... we simply wanted somewhere clean, quiet and of a decent standard. The Atlantis met our needs. It's not a huge hotel (thank goodness) but there was a good enough lobby area and enough staff at the check in counter to ensure a minimal wait if any - we were never in a queue. There's a car park, but you gotta pay for it just like at most other hotels in the city. The room was cleaned daily, the bed comfortable (maybe the pillows slightly not suited to me, but that's personal), we felt safe, it had all the amenties you'd expect and it was quiet (save for the odd conversation you'd briefly hear as other guests walked past the room ... and that's not often especially if you're out all day!). We always expect a small refrigerator (forget the mini-bar) and controllable air-conditioning temps in a hotel room - both were there. Toiletries were always replaced, spare toilet rolls present, tea and coffee and milk available (but we buy our own preferred fresh milk anyway) provided and there's a small sofa and sufficient desk space. At 25m2, the room was of standard size and spacious enough. And you couldn't fault the lovely and helpful reception staff .that always greeted you with a bright smile ... they were well trained. BUT, what we really loved about the hotel was its location. It might be right at the end of Bourke St but Melbourne is not a huge city and with the trams, the distance isn't great. Right opposite the hotel is Southern Cross Station - for those who aren't familiar, that's THE transport hub of the state of Victoria (not just of Melbourne city). Want to get a bus to the airport, it's there. A train around Melbourne, it's there. A bus or train to somewhere else in Vic or NSW or ..., it's there. Need a tram to Docklands (meh), South Wharf (Crown and restaurants) or the city centre, it's there. Too much luggage? It's a short walk across the street and doable even with a walking frame (not that we had one)
